From a trunk that had spent a lot of time in the sea where it was completely colonised by beetles and was then eaten by termites once it got to my garden. I was interested by the different surfaces - the smooth outer skin and the honeycombed interior. The piece has a figure like quality. I am excited by the idea that it doesn't appear to be a trunk - with the metallic paint it looks molten and some sections look as if they have been engineered. I think this is a powerful piece - provocative and arresting.
